March 2025 Newsletter

Life got busy. We had a sale, then we got flat out moving and delivering cattle. Half the team returned to our Nundle block to continue work on it only to return two weeks later to assist with weaning. The school schedules have filled up with sport and extra curricular activities and well, life got busy. You could all be forgiven for thinking we had fallen off the face of the earth with the lack of contact and social media posts. Rest assured we are still here and although busy we are thriving and well.

The Female sale last month was two fantastic days of great cattle, great food, great conversations and as Claudia suggested on our virtual tour video a few beverages.

In all we sold

Purebred Speckle Park

2/18 Unjoined heifers

14/20 PTIC Heifers

32/39 PTIC Cows

2/7 Bulls

Commercial Cattle

10/10 Commercial Speckle Park Steers

11/11 Angus cows with F1 calves

14/14 PTIC Angus Heifers

Buyers joined us from Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and NSW. We also had visitors join us simply to enjoy our Speckle Park beef and now of course they want more.

Thank you to all the buyers and supporters who joined us over the two days. We wish you all the very best with your purchases.

There is not doubt that we are facing significant challenges as a breed. Focusing on quality has never been more important. The product we are breeding has to stand up in the many facets of the supply chain from live cattle through the saleyards, grass and grain finished cattle to steaks on plates. There is no denying the breed ticks a lot of boxes and has a place in the industry. For us holding true to the basics and ensuring the structural correctness, the weight for age, the maturity pattern, the temperament and the fertility of our whole herd stands up and performs is where it is at. No bells and whistles just good cattle.

Next up for us is managing grass, sowing crops, getting kids to Sydney Royal, a couple of trips to Queensland and more.

We'd love to hear what's happening in your world. Did you survive Cyclone Alfred? Did he even turn up at your place? Shoot us an email, text or give us a call.

All the best

The WG team

PS: In other exciting news we have added a very classy pink and white trucker cap to our merchandise range. They are available for purchase on our website now. You can check them out here.
